?To promote understanding of the aesthetic, economic, and ecological role of plants, both in gardens and in more natural settings. The Robert W. Monk Gardens are Central Wisconsin's first public botanical gardens, located in beautiful Wausau, Wisconsin. Designed to create a place of beauty for all, the Gardens will evolve over time, revealing new and lush gardens designed to excite all the senses while simultaneously providing a place where all can grow their minds and bodies surrounded by the beauty of nature. The twenty plus acre property was generously donated by Robert W. Monk, III, a long time resident of Wausau, Wisconsin. Mr. Monk's dream to create a public garden for the residents of Wisconsin and all who visit our region has been adopted by countless members of the community, making the Gardens a true work of community involvement. The thoughtfully designed Robert W. Monk Gardens will allow visitors to enjoy the grounds from the earliest stages of its creation. Visitors today experience the beauty of the pine woods, a lush pond and sweeping vistas of the open fields which Mr. Monk envisioned and created many years ago.
