We are looking for individuals to sew patriotic themed quilts/lap blankets, memory bears and/or pillows upon request. Memory bears and pillows are made from sentimental clothing that belonged to loved ones on our hospice services. We have memory bear patterns available. A Veteran volunteer is a person who has served or is currently serving in the military, visiting a Veteran on Hospice. Vet to Vet builds comradery that nonmilitary members can't relate to. Some things our Veteran Volunteers have done in the past are presenting veterans with a certificate and pin of gratitude for their service during a recognition ceremony when they come onto hospice care. They assist in planning and attending special activities and events for veterans. Veteran Volunteers also routinely visit Veteran Hospice patients and build relationships with them. As a Veteran, you will have first priority when we have a veteran looking for a companion volunteer. Great for veterans, ROTC, active duty, military family members etc.

Duties (any one activity will be very helpful): -Assisting in special events -Look for new opportunities.

Qualifications: -Positive attitude, organized, and possess a desire to honor our nation's veterans, and a desire to work in a hospice setting with the elderly, and a wide range of individuals.

Respite visit volunteers provide regularly scheduled visits with the patient and/or the patient's family. Offer the gift of time to family members of patients in hospice who face the ever-present challenge of care giving. Hospice respite volunteers offer short-term (1-4 hours) respite care to patients, allowing caregivers to take a break, run errands, nap, etc.

Qualifications: Patience, compassion, flexibility, dependability, and good active listening skills are needed. Volunteers need to be able to establish and maintain boundaries. The volunteer must be able to put the patient's interests first. Being well grounded and possessing good common sense are important.

Time Commitment: Generally, visits are made 1-2 times a month and are 1-4 hours in length. We ask that volunteers commit at least two hours a month.

Location: Patient visits take place in the home of the patient whether it is a private residence, assisted living facility, or nursing home.

Benefits: The benefit of helping others who are not able to repay you is priceless. Complete training is given to volunteers to address all aspects of patient care. The Volunteer Coordinator will attend the first visit with each volunteer and will be available for any questions or concerns. Continuing education in end-of-life issues is available to all volunteers.

A phone pal is like a pen pal but instead of writing letters, it's over the phone! A phone pal is someone who is not able to go into a facility or a patient's home but calls them and talks to them over the phone. This person would call the patient and talk with them and be a friendly listening ear to a patient on hospice. While it may not be in person, it still gives an outlet to the patient of a person to talk to, someone to listen, and build comradery with to let them know they are not alone. A friendly caller may also make tuck in calls. Tuck in calls is where a person calls a patient, or facility where a patient lives, to ask if they need any additional supplies before we head into the weekend. Then take note of which person needs what supplies and let the nurse or aide know to bring these supplies at their next visit. 

Sometimes hospice can be scary for people, and they want to help but aren't sure how if they don't feel comfortable visiting patients. Becoming an office support volunteer is a perfect avenue. With your help, patients will continue to receive quick, accurate, and reliable service. Office staff are often the "unsung heroes" but not around here! Without help keeping our files in good order, maintaining good communication with doctors and facilities, it would be impossible to provide the high level of patient-centered, family-focused care that we do. We would love to have you join our team and experience the satisfaction of knowing that the ill and vulnerable are having a better day because of you. You have a variety of office duties to choose from: filing; monthly bereavement mailings; copying; organizing resources; sending, receiving and distributing faxes; and special projects.

Being a hospice volunteer is an intensely rewarding experience.  Volunteers are given the choice as to what types of things you want to do and how much time you want to contribute (usually 1-2 hours per week).  Interim HealthCare believes that volunteers are often the heart of the origination because they give the gift of time to those in need. Volunteers provide support to patients who are near the end of life as well as their family, and caregivers.  Help is provided wherever the patient considers home, which could be their own house, apartment, an assisted living, or skilled nursing facility.  The goal is to help maximize quality of life when quantity of life is limited. There are two types of volunteers, Patient Volunteers and Office Volunteers.

Office Volunteers may also choose to help in the office with mailing, computer work, organizing supplies, and administrative duties.  Some volunteers have special training to help provide grief support.

Volunteers are required to complete an interview and about 9 hours of training.  They also receive ongoing support and training from the hospice care team.  Hospice education covers philosophy of hospice care; services offered by hospice; physical, emotional, social, and spiritual issues encountered at the end of life; effective communication when speaking with patients and family members; comfort care; the dying process; and basic information about grief and loss.

Are you looking to get out of the house and be active. Looking for a way to meet kind people yet not doing customer service? Do you like to organization and make things neat? Good News Project is looking for someone to help with office cleaning one day per week. Time is flexible and negotiable.  

Volunteer would vacuum carpets, sweep and mop floors, clean kitchen and bathrooms, dust office areas, clean and organize board room and volunteer area, and occasionally wash interior windows. Help the Good News Project team stay productive and focused on our mission.

Volunteers are needed on a weekly basis to assist with the turn-around of donated medical equipment.  Items need to be sanitized, reassembled, and cataloged to meet ongoing client needs.  No computer skills are needed. We attempt to help volunteers find a 2–3-hour shift that fits best within their schedule during our regular business hours. Each December Faith in Action hosts our annual Christmas Care Drive called Gifts of Hope and mails Christmas cards and gift certificates to over 200 seniors in our area.  The gift certificates will be provided by FIA.  We are looking for HOME-MADE cards with envelopes. (No oversized, puffy, or odd-shaped cards, please, as these require extra postage.) Cards should be Christmas-themed and can be decorated however you like, please sign your first name and state that you are a Faith in Action volunteer.   Do not seal the envelopes, as we will also enclose gift certificates.  We are also looking for postage stamps to help cover the cost of mailing these cards.

Faith in Action delivers food pantry items from The Neighbors Place to Marathon County seniors who cannot easily leave their homes. Each Care-receiver receives two bags of groceries. Deliveries are made twice a month on Wednesday mornings. 

We are looking for substitute drivers to fill in when a regular Volunteer is out sick or on vacation. Routes typically take about an hour and a half. Each route consists of 4-8 deliveries and is grouped by location in Wausau, Rothschild, Schofield, or Weston. The Volunteer must be available to pick up the food pantry items at The Neighbors Place between 9:30 am and 10:30 am. The bags will be packed and ready to go. Permanent routes may be available in the future.

Friendly Visiting is part of Faith in Action of Marathon County's support system to keep seniors socially connected to the community. Social exchange is a vital link to mental health. 

The Friendly Visitor assists seniors in maintaining their identity, passing along their valuable knowledge and experience, and diminishes the growing problem of isolationism and loneliness.

You would be assigned one or more seniors to call regularly. How many seniors you would like to connect with is up to you. You will then call them on a schedule that works for you and them (once a week, twice a week, once a month, etc.)

Faith in Action Marathon County collects used inkjet/laserjet cartridges to exchange for funds that help us provide needed rides to area seniors.

The plastic zipper bags are used to sort the ink cartridges.  

The cartridges are sent to a recycling program that will reimburse us.

Deliver Food and Hope! As a Community Care Courier, you'll be the friendly face delivering groceries to food pantry clients who have difficulty getting a ride to the pantry, especially in the colder months. Your role is more than just delivery—it's about bringing a little extra kindness and ensuring that neighbors in need have access to nutritious food with a smile. You'll be a vital link between the pantry and the community, helping to make a real difference in people's lives. Delivery drivers will be a part of a team and will have access to the CCH transport van, or be reimbursed at the federal charitable rate. Must be 18 or older to volunteer. All drivers must have a valid license. Scheduling is flexible and can be adjusted in the event of inclement weather.

Faith in Action mails birthday cards to each of our Care-receivers and volunteers on an on-going basis. (30-50 cards each month)

We also mail Christmas cards to all of our Care-receivers. (200+ cards)

Provide an adjunct therapy activity for patients who would like additional social or emotional stimulation. Visit with patients, guests, and staff. Pets must be certified through an American Kennel Club accrediting agency.

You can greatly help our patients by making handmade items. We continue to need *Pocket Prayer Shawls*, Prayer Shawls, Twiddle Muffs, and always stuffed animals (must be homemade or new with tags). Also, veteran-themed lap blankets for our hospice veterans. Patterns are available upon request.

GiGi's Playhouse-Wausau runs multiple programs throughout the year.

Our current group programs include the following: Seed to Sale (focuses on gardening), Music Makers, Kitchen, Fantastic Friends (an adult social skills group), Playhouse Pals (social-based program for ages 5-8), and Kid's Club (social-based program for ages 9-12).

Programs we would like to build up soon are Dance, Art Explosion, and we would like to increase our programs for our adult population, as this is our fastest growing and biggest demographic.

We are looking for volunteers to help keep these programs running, or to help get them on their feet! All of our programs are written on a national level, and we implement them locally. All training and resources are provided, and any questions that come up are welcomed!

GiGi's Playhouse- Wausau is a non-profit organization, making fundraising extremely important to our organization!  Through our Events Committee volunteers, we work out details of our three largest events for the year, a 5K Glow Fun Run/Walk (June 14th, 2025), GiGi's Harvest Picnic (September 11th, 2025), and a Kickball tournament (October 4th, 2025). We would love to have anyone with non-profit, fundraising, event planning experience, or with no experience in these fields, but who are willing to learn. This committee meets virtually for approximately 1 hour. The frequency of meetings depends on how close we are to upcoming events.

Program volunteers play an integral role within GiGi’s Playhouse by facilitating educational and therapeutic skill development activities and connecting with families. All training is provided and you will have access to a vast library of resources to help you teach participants skills. 

The Literacy and Math programs are both individualized to each participants unique interests, skill levels, and needs. Literacy is designed to improve participants language (both written and spoken). Math programming is built to develop skills from basic number, shape, and color identification to multiplication and division.

At The Good Shepherd Shelter, we are committed to offering a safe, supportive environment for those in need, but we can't do it alone. Right now, we're in need of breakfast essentials to start each day off right, including: Cereal, Milk, Granola Bars, Fruit Cups, Oatmeal, Coffee, Sugar & Creamer, Juice. In addition, we’re seeking backup meals intakes such as: Spaghetti Sauce & Noodles Frozen Casseroles Pre-packaged, Frozen Lasagna, Frozen Enchiladas, Frozen Meat or Veggie Chili, Frozen Pasta Bake (with layers of pasta, cheese, and sauce),Frozen Chicken Alfredo, Frozen Shepherd’s Pie, Frozen Stir-fry Kits (with pre-cooked rice and veggies),Frozen Sloppy Joes (with buns),These frozen meals will help us quickly serve large groups and ensure no one goes hungry. Your generous donations make all the difference in providing warmth and comfort to the families we serve.

We are bringing back our Vintage Game Night after a long absence but we need volunteers to help us make it a success. This a great opportunity for some young people to earn volunteer service hours whether you are in a school organization/club, community organization or Scouts. If you like games, we can use volunteers to set up and take down the games, get attendees involved, even play games with the guests. This is a fun experience. It will be the first Friday of each month from approximately 5:30-8:30 pm. No heavy lifting. Thank you for your interest.

We have events throughout the year and always need volunteers for multiple jobs. From poster distribution, greeters, children's crafts, refreshments, decorating and tour guides for events like our Vintage Tea, My Dolly and Me, Kid's History Day, Family Valentine Tea and Holidays at the Houses, we're sure that there is something that will interest you.Thank you for your interest and time. Our volunteers are the best asset we have.

Whatever the Community Event is, the Marathon County Historical Society is there. Our outreach to educate people on the importance of our past goes beyond our exhibits and the Yawkey House Museum. We attend many events like Harvest Fest, Winter Fest, Children's Fest, YMCA Healthy Kids Day, NTC STEM Event, Pride Fest, Dairy Breakfast, WI Valley Fair Booth, Ginseng Festival, World Culture Day and much more. What will this volunteer do? If it's a family/children event we will have a table/booth/tent set up with old-fashioned games, crafts and coloring sheets. If it's an event like the Fair, Ginseng Festival, or World Culture's Day, we'll have an historical display of some kind. This volunteer mans the table/booth and helps with the activity. We have information about the historical society and upcoming events available for attendees to take with them. It is very easy and fun interacting with the community.

Provide your neighbors the dignity, customer service, and nourishment they deserve in their time of need. Stock & organize market shelves, help answer guest questions or assist with shopping to make a meaningful impact every day. An enjoyable time engaging with members of the community is guaranteed! The ability to work with a diverse population as well as the ability to organize, lift & carry lightweight items are recommended.

Our market is open Monday and Wednesday 1:30pm-4:30pm (volunteer shift 1pm-4:30pm) Tuesday and Thursday at 10:30am-1:30pm (volunteer shift 10am-1:30pm). We need assistance before, during and after this time, to assist our guests as well as maintaining a well-stocked pantry. We have opportunities for personal shopping and stocking.

The Aspirus Family House is a beautiful, modern, home-like facility that provides temporary housing for patients traveling for long-term outpatient specialty care, as well as for families coming a long distance to be near their loved one who's hospitalized. The house eases the financial burden associated with housing for our most vulnerable patients and families.

Help our guests by visiting with them in common areas, assisting staff with changing beds, cleaning, basic household duties, etc. to keep the house looking fresh, organized, well-stocked and homelike.

You can also bring in homemade food for guests (you can make at home and deliver).

Monday-Friday, Varied shifts from 8:30am-6:30pm

Whether you have zero free time, or loads of it - this is the ideal volunteer opportunity that works around your unique schedule!  Friends are matched based on similar interests to adults with disabilities to form inclusive friendships in our communities.  Getting together twice a month is the average time which can look like: grabbing coffee, cooking a meal, going to a movie, watching or playing a sport, attend a local community event, whatever it might be that you enjoy!  This isn't something you HAVE to do - it's someone that you GET to do life with!

At Interim Hospice, patient volunteers are available to help our patients and their families by lending a hand and being a friendly face while visiting. They serve as integral members of our hospice team and work in collaboration with the other team members. In addition to helping with daily tasks, they provide vital support and companionship. Community Based mentoring, involves a "Big Brother" and/or "Big Sister" volunteers providing children- "Littles"- individualized time and attention on a regular basis, typically 2-4 times per month for an hour or two at a time. During casual weekly or bi-weekly outings, filled with conversations and shared activities, they develop a relationship that helps children manage the everyday challenges that are part of "growing up." During time spent with their Big, Littles gain new skills, explore new interests and expand their experience base beyond their family or neighborhood. Activities can include, going to parks, exploring the library, hiking Rib Mountain, taking part in local events, bowling, etc. BBBSNCW encourages taking part in low-cost/no-cost experiences. Volunteers can choose to work with a child living in the following school district areas: Abbotsford, Athens, D.C. Everest, Marathon, Merrill, Mosinee, and Wausau.

The Heartfelt Gift Shop is a quaint little shop located in the new Mount View Care Center nursing home tower.  Visit with residents, friends and family as they browse the Gift Shop.  Ring up their purchases and provide a friendly customer experience.

backpack and common school supplies for the upcoming school year through the Workplace
Volunteer Council’s (WVC) signature project – Fill A Backpack Fill A Need (FABFAN). To be
*eligible to take part in FABFAN, students must be entering 4K through 8th grade and qualify
for free or reduced lunch at school.

How can you help?
 Donate supplies. Donations of backpacks and school supplies can be delivered to any of

Tap into your creative side, helping make items more desirable on how they are displayed. Merchandising is an important part of our thrift store, we receive and price donations on a daily basis.  Getting these items to the sales floor helps get the items in the hands of people that need them quicker! 

Enjoy the experience volunteering by yourself, with a friend or in a group setting.  We can always use assistance getting old merchandise off of our floor and help continue to make room for new merchandise. 

The profits of St. Vincent de Paul go to those in need in our local community. Volunteering here is one of many ways you can help give back.

We invite you to become a Dog Advocate and start dedicating your time and talents to the critters! Dog advocates help to socialize, walk, and train our dogs, as well as provide enrichment, take animals on outings and to events, and assist in kennel maintenance. Volunteers must be over 18 and be prepared for a 4 hour monthly time commitment. Children must be 8+ to participate with a dog advocate (One child per one volunteer 18+).

Assistance in preparing, cooking and serving and cleaning of lunch meal and other occasional meals

Possibly provide coverage for the lead cook as needed.   

Job Duties include:

* Meal - menu and supplies will be preplanned. 

* Ensure food is cooked and kept at the proper temperature.

* Maintain the meal program if the lead cook is out. 

* Help clean, rotate food, and organize the kitchen and meal supply area.

* Work independently after an assignment has been given.

* Follow guidelines for food safety and preparations.

* Hours needed 8:00 am - 1:00 pm  Monday - Friday

Assist in driving for food pickups, supplies or other needs.  Training will be provided.  

Pick up from local grocery stores and restaurants daily.

Driving a minivan

Requires lifting, loading/unloading, and paperwork at each stop.  

7:30 am- 3:30 pm depending on the day and pick up need.  

Volunteers interested in helping out can come and ride along with an experienced driver to understand procedure.

All Drivers must be approved through The Salvation Army insurance and over 21 years of age.

 Help keep buildings clean and sanitized.  

Help with lunch preparations for 75 to 150 individuals per day.

Dinner for 32 bed Transitional Living Center

Weekly youth program meal.
