Who We Are

Catholic Charities proclaims Christ's Gospel of Life and promotes human dignity by alleviating poverty and strengthening individuals and families. Catholic Charities extends its mission through compassionate service, support, and advocacy. We serve individuals, families, and communities of all faiths and heritages, without regard to race, gender, national origin, age, disability, or economic status.

What We Do

Catholic Charities offers a variety of programs to support the needs of our community. We work closely with United Way and other community organizations to ensure success.

The Good Shepherd Shelter provides:

  • A clean, warm and safe environment for up to 30 adult men and women every night. We work to protect each guest’s personal dignity by ensuring we maintain a safe, respectful environment.
  • Food for our guests.
  • Laundry and shower services.
  • Provide protection from outside elements.
  • Outreach to unsheltered individuals.
  • Supportive Staff & Volunteers: Available to talk or assist with any felt needs.
  • Interaction with trained staff to connect guests with local community services.

In addition, we have staff available to help with Adoption, Disaster Relief, Post Adoption, Pregnancy Support and St. Lawrence Community Services. St. Lawrence Community Services provides support and guidance for clients as they make lasting changes to their relationship with handling money. We will work with clients to overcome their financial and emotional obstacles, thereby clearing a path to financial harmony. Catholic Charities is a Certified H.U.D. Housing Counseling Agency and our St. Lawrence staff are either working towards their certification or are Certified H.U.D. Housing Counselors. Outreach services are available at our other office locations.

Volunteer Opportunities:

Volunteers are needed to keep our night shelter open. Volunteering at the Good Shepherd Shelter can take many forms. It can include donating food, preparing meals, serving meals, distributing bedding and clothing, helping guests read and understand our policies and procedures, and interacting with guests to help them feel welcome and included in our community. Whatever your schedule and comfort level permits, we have a volunteer opportunity for you!
